A Moment in Time - Before the Oscars on March 10th, join us for a virtual screening of “A Moment in Time”, a one-hour documentary by Lambert Yam and Academy Award winner Ruby Yang about the experience of the Chinese in San Francisco's Chinatown. The film is about the growth, evolution and eventual demise of five ethnic cinemas in San Francisco’s Chinatown and their role in bridging the gap between China and the United States.

More than 100 years before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world and set off a wave of fear and anti-Asian sentiment, an outbreak of bubonic plague in San Francisco’s Chinatown in 1900 unleashed a similar furor.

Legacy -
Over 150 years ago, Chinese Railroad Workers blasted and chiseled their way through the rugged Sierra Nevada Mountains near Donner Summit on the Tahoe National Forest in California while completing the Transcontinental Railroad. Despite this monumental achievement, the Chinese Railroad Workers’ contribution was excluded, ignored and forgotten from history. Today, grassroots groups including the USDA Forest Service are working together to retell this story.
